ANSWERS TO
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
Will I be able to access my domain name with or without the WWW?
Yes. You will be able to access your
domain name with or without the WWW in front. For example, you could
access the domain name "mydomain.com" by going to "www.mydomain.com" as
well as "mydomain.com".
Can I check domain
name availability?
Yes. You can
check domain availability
directly from our web site.
Does
Hazel Web Hosting Co.
handle domain registration?
Yes, for the most common top-level domains.
We currently register domains for .com, .net, .org, .biz,
.us, and .info.
Hazel Web Hosting Co. will register new domain names for you.
Hazel Web Hosting Co. will
purchase the domain name for you using YOUR credit card information. If you have an existing
domain, upon receiving your email request, we will attempt to make the
necessary changes in order to switch your domain so that it uses our
name servers. Once the transfer is announced "completed", there is
generally a 72 hour propagation period where visitors should be able to
go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact the
previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and
update their DNS records. If you use this same provider for your
Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site at
Hazel Web Hosting Co. until they update their DNS records. During the propagation
period, persons accessing your site will be going to both sites until
all are accessing the new site.
Can I transfer my
existing domain name to Hazel Web Hosting Co.?
Yes. When you place your order
using our
online order form, be sure to specify that you are requesting a
transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the hosting service at the present location
while waiting for the Domain Name Registrar to complete the transfer.
We will provide you with an IP address so you can upload your site on
our server. All email and web pages will still be accessed from the
current site until the domain is pointing to our servers.
How long does it take
before my domain name is active?
We get your account setup generally within
a few hours. Once the account is setup we email you
your information so you can start uploading/publishing your site.
If this is a new domain registration, it can take 24 hours for the
domain name to be propagated throughout the DNS servers around the
world.
If you are transferring your domain from another host, once the Domain
Name Registrar announces that your domain name has been transferred, it
usually takes about 24 to 72 hours before it is active. All internet
providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site
locations. This is called propagation.
One way to tell if your domain name is pointing to our servers yet is to
PING the domain name from a command prompt (PING your_domain.com). If
the result shows the IP we assigned you, then your domain is pointing to
our servers.
How much is the
Domain Name Registration fee?
Currently, the charge is $19.95 to register a
new .com, .net., or .org, domain name. .Info, .biz, and .us
domains are slightly higher. This fee covers the first year's Domain Name
Registration Fee with a Domain Name Registrar. You can review our
price schedule by going to our
domain
registration page

What are my Email Settings
If your email address is joe@yourdomain.com, you would use the
following info:
Username: joe@yourdomain.com
Password: yourpassword (This is the password you set when you added the
pop account in your cpanel/
Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.com)
How do I setup the extra POP accounts I'm supposed to have with my
account?
Simply use our online control panel to add these.
I can't send email. What's
wrong?
Our SMTP servers are configured as secure relays. This means
that you cannot simply reference "mail.yourdomain.com" as an Outgoing
mailserver unless you successfully log in via one of your pop3 accounts
at "mail.yourdomain.com' before you try to send. This is a mandatory
setting to prevent spammers from using our mailservers as havens for
unsolicited email. If you are getting a "relaying prohibited" or
"disconnected by administrator" error, it means that you haven't logged
into the pop3 server at your domain before you tried to send through the
smtp server at your domain. To log in, you need to check for mail first.
In addition to this, you might not be able to send regardless of if you
check mail successfully. Some ISPs have it set so that their users
cannot use an outbound SMTP server to relay messages. If you are still
experiencing problems sending through your domain, and are certain that
you have logged in via pop3 to an account at your domain, you might want
to contact your local ISP to see if they do allow their users to use
outbound smtp servers. Several large ISP's are in the process of
blocking all access to port 25 (the SMTP port). A few hosts that are
currently doing this are:
Earthlink
UUNet
Prodigy
(There are probably others, these are just the ones we are aware of)
They do this so that you will be forced to use their outgoing
SMTP servers. Instead of using mail.yourdomain.com as your outgoing mail
server, you should use the SMTP servers that your ISP provides you with.
